Cardinal Timothy Dolan
Archbishop of New York
President, United States Conference of Catholic Bishops
3211 Fourth Street NE
Washington DC 20017-1194
Dear Cardinal Dolan:
Congratulations on your recent appointment as Cardinal. We pray that the Catholic community will be blessed by your leadership and ministry in this role.
Recently, official documents from the National Organization for Marriage (NOM) have revealed how this group has been actively attempting to create divisions between the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender (LGBT) community and communities of color in order to reach their goal of denying the right to marry to same-gender couples.
Fostering hostility and hatred is something that violates the very fundamentals of our faith. We are one community that gathers around the Eucharistic table, one human family. Our Church stands for unity among all, regardless of race or ethnicity. We should be promoting understanding, love and the inherent dignity of all people.
As Catholics committed to justice, we call on you to immediately end any relationship that the USCCB, state Catholic conferences, or individual bishops may have with NOM. We also feel strongly that the USCCB should offer a public apology for past collaboration with this organization that promotes divisiveness and hate.
Faithfully,
The partners of Equally Blessed
